Mike brings over 30 years’ experience in business restructuring and insolvency matters. Mike started his career with a top 10 national firm of Accountants in London, before joining a top 15 firm to eventually become a partner in the insolvency team. Mike qualified as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner in 1993 and in 2000 he set up a specialist insolvency and finance firm which merged with Dermot’s practice in 2008 to form MBI Coakley. Mike has dealt with all forms of formal appointments for both individuals and corporates, as well as informal solutions. Mike has considerable experience in the hospitality sector. Outside of work, Mike is a keen golfer and skier.
Dermot has over 30 years’ experience in business restructuring and insolvency matters. Dermot qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and moved to specialise in the field of insolvency and restructuring in London, becoming a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner in 1989. Dermot was a business restructuring partner at a top 10 national firm based in Guildford prior to setting up his own business restructuring practice in 2007. In 2008 that practice was merged with Mike’s business to form MBI Coakley. As well as undertaking all types of formal insolvency appointments, Dermot has extensive experience in solvent winding ups and restructurings, including S110 Schemes of Arrangement. Dermot’s weekend pursuits include cycling and cars.
Svetlana has been with the firm for over 15 years. Svetlana started her restructuring and insolvency career when she joined the firm as a graduate from the University of Surrey and qualified as an insolvency practitioner in 2014, having passed her JIEB exams. Svetlana is in the process of completing her Chartered Certified Accountant qualification with ACCA. Svetlana is fluent in both Russian and English. Outside of work, she is a committee member and Secretary of her local NCT branch and volunteers at various NCT charity events throughout the year. Svetlana enjoys Bikram yoga, swimming and going on holiday with her family.
Shaun has been with the firm since 2014 and is a Manager in our insolvency team. Shaun is a graduate of law and gained his post graduate diploma after completing the LPC at the University of Law in Guildford. Prior to starting his career in restructuring and insolvency, Shaun worked for a firm of professional trustees dealing with global investment projects. Shaun passed his ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency in 2015 and is currently studying for his ACA. At the weekend Shaun enjoys cycling, fixing cars and the occasional clay shooting.
Lauren is an insolvency and restructuring case administrator and joined the firm in mid-2016, having completed her LPC at the University of Law in Guildford. Lauren has studied for and passed the Certificate in Insolvency with the ICAEW in 2017 and is presently studying for her ACA exams with the ICAEW. In her spare time Lauren enjoys horse riding, running, skiing and scuba diving.
After studying a law degree, David went on to work with a national food retailer and complete their graduate training program, which eventually led to him managing a number of retail outlets in North England, responsible for all HR functions, for fulfing Key Performance Indications in sales, staff retention and payroll costs. David has taken the opportunity to relocate to the South and has decided that a career in corporate restructuring will play even better into his skillset. Outside of work David enjoys playing hockey for his local team on the weekend as well as growing fruit and vegetables in his garden.
Clive has over twenty years’ experience in business restructuring and insolvency matters. Working and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in the City of London Clive became a general practice partner in a top 15 national firm. He then became a partner in their business recovery and insolvency division specialising in turnaround and rescue. He ran the regional office of a firm locally until 2015. Clive is a specialist in insolvency investigation and antecedent transactions work, as well as solvent and insolvent formal appointments.
